Portland Bowling Green Club

News and Events

We are open and looking forward to seeing all of our members. However, we still have to follow the government guidelines at all of our sessions.

There is a booking system for our Saturday and Tuesday Spoons. If you wish to play in either of these events you need to contact Colin Boyle to book your place. Either by phone or email. We are limited to a maximum of 24 players at any one time and we still cannot have spectators. This will continue until the covid rules are relaxed, hopefully in the next few weeks. In the meantime. Use the hand sanitizers. The clubhouse is not yet open so only use the changing room/toilets. Max six people at any one time. Wear face coverings whilst inside.

On Saturdays we will, as usual, be expected to wear a club blazer, white shirt and tie whilst on Tuesdays casual dress is permitted, but no jeans.

Lewis, our greenkeeper, will carry out maintenance/green cutting work on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. We request there is no play before 1.00pm on Tuesdays and 11.00am on Thursdays.

Informal "roll up" sessions can take place at any other time subject to the current covid restrictions. In addition to the above guidelines please record your visit in the register which is in the changing room. Practice social distancing and restrict numbers to a maximum of six people on a rink.

Many thanks for your assistance in keeping Portland safe.

About Portland Bowling Green Club

Portland Bowling Green Club was established in the Jesmond area of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1874. It is the county's oldest private bowling club and was a founding member of the Northumberland County Bowling Association.

9 of our members have served as President of the Association and we boast one of the best greens in the county. The club is run by a committee that presides over members who are drawn from all walks of life throughout the North East of England.

We pride ourselves on our hospitality, which is extended to everyone who visits our Club. Both members and visitors are offered a thoroughly enjoyable experience in a near perfect setting, encompassing our clubhouse, green and surrounding gardens.
